KIRBY

This short film was created as an entry for the Uwe Boll Fantastic Film contest, sponsored by G4 TV. The film pits wrestler, Brimstone (coached by Street Fighter: The Later Year's Zangief) against Nintendo's Kirby. I should have known going in, anything with Boll's name attached to it, meant trouble. And since G4 wouldn't know talent if it bit them in the ass, this wonderful short (with stellar animation by Ralph Henriquez) was overlooked and forgotten. Damn you G4TV.

Kirby was shot in 2 hour's time at a boxing gym in NYC. I had shown up a week prior to secure and confirm the location for filming with the owner. But on the day of shooting, he was no where to be found and I, along with 20 other people found myself locked outside the gym for over an hour. In that time, countless phone calls were made to the owner as well as to other potential substitute locations. There was no luck, in fact, it wasn't until the cleaning lady (a very mean and nasty as well as old, Italian woman) showed up that we even managed to get inside. She had been present when I had originally asked to film there with the owner who was more than happy to lend me the place. But some how, this old bat conveniently forgot I was scheduled to shoot and was a real bitch about it. Regardless, we did get to film, but she continually rushed me and subsequently, my production quality suffered. I was not a happy camper. Oh yeah, and our star was almost 3 hours late too. Damn NYC traffic to hell!

Yet despite all the inconveniences that I encountered shooting this project, the final product was still something I can only describe as awesome. Kirby himself was the saving grace. He is do damned cute and innocent looking that when you see him in a serious scenario against a giant grizzly man, you can't help but giggle. He's just so adorable.
