THE CABINET of Chris .R. Notarile

A modern retelling as well as an original take on the classic 1919 German expressionist, silent film, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari".

A WORD FROM CHRIS

This was my first horror film in nearly two years. I had the idea after watching a music video made out of the Caligari film. I own the movie and have loved it ever since I had first seen it. But I didn't decide to do anything till I saw that video. Something about putting modern goth rock to the original film just worked and I decided to explore that realm. I wanted to spice up the concept a bit and chose not to do a remake for two reasons. The first being that I didn't want to copy what was already done, there is no fun in that. And the second reason, there was already a wonderful remake made back in 2005 starring Doug Jones aka the Silver Surfer. I felt I would just be rehashing or doing a second rate job if I tried a remake. So I got to thinking and came up with my variation on this tale.

Clearly, it is not 100% accurate to the original film. There is definitely a modern flare to the film as well as a raw grittiness. But I really tried to keep the essence and spirit of the original. Looking at the finished product, I think I accomplished my goals and that makes me very happy.
